Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
Are you looking forward to the new Alexander
films? In a way, I am.... but more strongly I am
not as I feel that they will confuse people about
the historical Alexander. Look how many
people's view about Commodus and Marcus
Arielius have been formed by "Gladiator". Your
thoughts, please. I love this forum and this site!!!

I'm looking because of quriousity but I'm very much affraid that they will spoil the movie. Well of course it has to be good looking but in my opinion there is no reason to change the facts. I think that in Alex's story is so many great moments that it would be enough for few movies so I hope they will stick to historical records.Regards

I'm looking forward to the film's (Stone's most of all). Even if the films do use artistic license it will bring Alexander's name and achievements to a whole new generation (ALL publicity is good publicity). We may even have some television documentaries, in response, to 'set the record straight'?From a purely selfish viewpoint: The merchandising spinoffs will give me something to spend my money on, if nothing else! regardsKit.

Greetings,I keep thinking of "Lawrence of Arabia".In that movie, they compressed people into one or two figures (can't have too many major characters or the focus gets lost), changed historical facts to create a tight script- yet hired actors who were all well-known and excellent, except for the title role, knowing they needed an "unknown" quality to that character. Even with the "native" characters they selected actors who were well-known and admired in their own cinemas (except for the Auda Quinn, which was somewhat overdone) .Excellent actors, excellent script, outstanding cinematography, directing, costuming, editing- and you got a major Oscar winner that sent a lot of people off to read more about this enigmatic person..Now with this upcoming movie, I have so far been disappointed in their selection of players- they seem to be stuck on current Hollywood fads and I *know* there are excellent actors/actresses in other countries who could have served the parts well if not better - No offense to Farrel fans, but I have yet to see charisma generate from him; the script has me worried(and the Bagoas lines posted above? *Please* tell me that is a rough draft*- parts play like predictable comedy and worse, sounds maudlin-
so I am hoping at least for good cinematography since I am already disappointed in the cast, script, and costuming... I have no faith in the historical play, either. While I recognize that dramatic license is important, I also know that a director, working with a script, must understand the mystery of each person's motivation and human confusion in order to do well at selecting and using scenes to enhance the duality of the human character - the movie must suggest history without having to be accurate.. I have concerns that Stone is just re-creating his own Alexander, and devil take the consequences... will it inspire others to want to read the sources? Or will we have to suffer a spate of versions of Alexander that deal directly with the ATG Stone creates, similar to what has happened with "Gladiator"?Ah well- I will probably go watch the movie (*if* it plays here) and I will probably like aspects of it and cringe at others- I suspect the battle scenes will be well-done, the script and characters predictable and therefore, weak, and the colour and special visual effects magnificent. And despite the historical inaccuracy, I'll throroughly enjoy the Friesian wearing the Arab gear- (laughing) even if I *do* know where the

If they do with it what they did with "I, Claudius", it will be well worth watching. Regards,

Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
It is interesting to note how many films on Alexander are being made at all one and the same time. I am interested in the official Greek rendition. It looks as though its propaganda value will be quite positive to the cause of the Greeks. As for Oliver Stone's attempt to entertain, I am seriously concerned about his "skinny" actors portraying rough and tough very muscular Macedonians. I think he may prepare himself for jeers and spoofs, as the stills look right out of 7th and 8th grade level. Junior high students may just love it, though, and as most movies are made for that audience, he may be box office after all.Until some casting agent gets the right impression of Alexander, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for good acting since we are not going to get great reproductions.
Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
The Greek film and propaganda is all that the Greeks have got to try and Greekicize him while the olymbic flame is warming up.Historia and human rights is on the side of the Macedonians. The Greek film should be a laugh, too bad that I will miss out on the comedy.
Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
we dont need to greekicize someone who was greek. he didnt come from the moon you know.

I'm curious, but also certain they are going to make a Hollywood mess out of the story. (Shades of that earlier one with Richard Burton. Eeek!) Let's hope they surprise us though. At least I have some faith in Oliver Stone.
Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
I *am* looking forward to the films, but it suddenly occurred to me that, although Farrell is a charismatic actor, I don't know if he is particularly likeable. He has the energy which Alexander must have had, and in Phone Booth I thought he was occasionally a very ood actor, but I didn't like him. He is good-looking, of course, but his characters always seem to be morally weak: hollow or damaged men, or better than average cartoon baddies. Is there any film in which he plays a character you warm to? Which I think is essential for Alexander, and I don't get the feeling (looking at the stills from the film) that he has moved on from Burton's tortured staring-at-the-horizon-as-if-constipated acting...

I'm with you Stavros!!Alexander is a Greek hero ..PERIODLike it or lump it!
Re: Are you looking forward to the movies? Yes or no?
hi Patyou are the first person on this website to acknowledge, other than myself, that ATG was of greek origin. and not a confused martian. kind regardsstavrosp.s looking forward to the movies, but like everyone else believe the tale will be distorted to suit hollywood standards in favour for $$$$$$.
